I dine, you win! #JCLeRoux in the month of LOVE !

|By Elana| Free Stuff!, Home, To Eat

The first bubbles I ever tasted, was from my dads glass at a Christmas table. It was JC Le Roux. And it tasted good. Today, I wanna share, so there’s a chance for you to win! So lets make February a month of love to remember.
IMG_7808I arrive at the farm and it’s beautiful. You know how much I love a red carpet? Well, they have one!   And instead of an annoying entertainment reporter that hounding you about your dress code, the hosts at the reception desk are friendly and a few stairs to the restaurant takes you to some of the best tastes ever.

This is how amazing my Lunch was:

Starter: Beautifully baked Camembert-

Fantastic. It’s all my favorite individual bites all on one plate. And instead of picking like I normally do…I piled my fork and ate it together. Yum.

Mains: Char grilled Sirloin Steak –

Topped with a Café du Paris sauce served with roasted vegetables and Potato Gratin

Hearty enough that Ian and I shared it. We asked them to divide it in the kitchen. The fancy sauce (which I can’t pronounce) tastes like homemade curry. The same kind of flavors that mommy uses for pickled fish. Good!

Dessert: ( I had this first….) Red velvet Cheese Cake.

We are all familiar with red velvet cake, but the cheesecake was extra decadent. I would recommend eating it before mains- everyone might be ordering it and there’d by none left for you. The coulis on top of the cake you could probably anywhere. But the dish was unique , pink and decadent.

Our tasting was a nice surprise. I thought at first,…Like REALLY , how many JC Le Roux varieties can their be!

Well, Ian tried a set selection of 5 Méthode Cap Classique’s that were pre-selected by the Cellar Master. You would have to book for this.  I’d rather buy it straight form the farm than from Makro where it’s also available. I picked a few favorites that are now chilling here at home.

My drink…  IMG_7809

A glass of J.C. Non Alcoholic Le Domaine and a glass of J.C. Non Alcoholic La Fleurette paired with Jelly Tots fudge, coconut ice and cranberry fudge. Absolutely delicious. And it’s only R50.00.   So you have no reason to be at a loss for words this Valentines day.!

So. Goodluck, and Happy month of Love!

|By Elana| Free Stuff!, Home, To Eat

elana wine collage

ElanaWine by Elana Afrika-Bredenkamp has won a Gold Award at the 2014 Michelangelo Wine Awards. The annual event was hosted in Cape Town this week and saw ElanaWine win Gold in the Shiraz category.

Elana Afrika-Bredenkamp launched ElanaWine, a 2012 shiraz, earlier this year along with co-winemaker Rudi Van Waltsleben at the D’Aria estate in Durbanville, Cape Town.

“It’s an honour to call Elana wine… mine. But this voluptuous blend of juice in fact belongs to you. Time allowed me years to decide that I wanted to come back home, to the Cape, to make wine. So delight in every sip. It’s our conversation” – Elana Afrika-Bredenkamp

This sexy handcrafted Shiraz is an expression of quality, style and passion. This is bold and robust wine with its velvety smooth texture reflects the attention to detail in its craftsmanship. A Cosmopolitan of cassis, plums, pepper, spices and dark chocolate shavings are captured in this unique bottle of wine.

No wonder this hand-crafted shiraz created by Elana herself has won gold.

Win a share of my birthday cake…and see the recipe for the ultimate Rainbow Cake!

|By Elana| Free Stuff!, Home, To Eat

I decided to bake for my husbands birthday a few weeks ago. And when I bake, the cats, dogs and even my husband hides. I wanted to make a Rainbow Cake that I saw in the CelebrityBakeStars section of GoodHousekeeping mag.  What most recipes don’t tell you is…How not to stuff it up. So I will make sure yours is a success. Also, if you are new at this…set 4 hours aside. it’s a fantastic conversation starter, and a Look-what-I-can-do-MOM recipe! Also, It’s my birthday on the 15th of August ( just saying…:) and you have a fabulous chance to win a cake from our friends who create them professionally! My cake: photo2cake recipe     Ingredients (For the cake)

  • 450 g unsalted butter ( Don’t melt it in the microwave like I did. Keep it room temperature)
  • 450 g caster sugar
  • 450 g self-raising flour
  • 8 eggs
  • 2 tps vanilla essence
  • Food colouring in pink, orange, yellow, green, blue, purple ( use strong colouring- – the gel ones – but only use a drop or two, otherwise the colours go funny..)

For the icing … Now,  In Magazine-land they used 450 g of icing sugar. I am clearly not good at mixing it and I had to make 3 batches. So….buy enough before icing the cake!

  • 230 g unsalted butter at room temperature
  • 4 tbsp milk
  • 450 g icing sugar ….( remember what I said)

 METHOD

Preheat oven to 180°C. Spray three 20cm round cake tins with cooking spray for two batches. If you use two cake tins, you’ll need to bake in three batches.

2. Cream the butter and caster sugar together until pale and fluffy.

3. Lightly beat the eggs. Pour slowly into the butter and caster sugar mixture. Add 1tbsp sifted flour to prevent the mixture from curdling.

4. Use a metal spoon to fold in the rest of the flour. The mixture should drop off the spoon easily when it’s ready. Add 1 tbsp water if too thick. ( I added too much water…it still worked, but do as the recipe says)

5. Divide into 6 bowls. Add colouring to one bowl until you get the desired shade.

6. Pour the batter into a pan. Cook for 12 minutes or until askewer comes out clean. Repeat with all the colours.

7. Remove cakes from the oven and cool on wire racks.

8. To make the icing, beat butter and icing sugar together until pale, then add milk and beat until combined.

9. Place purple layer on a plate, spread with icing. Place blue layer on top and spread with icing. Repeat with the remaining colours. 1

0. Ice the outside of the cake. Refrigerate for about 30 minutes or until set. ( I left mine outside, It still set, but it’s winter :)

Pintrest messed it up for most of us. Our cakes will never look like this…but you can try:

014e848945a2d28366a5af8a527d5b6d74aa7e5511-2-396x396 So…..Since it’s my Birthday Month I want to give you the chance to win a stunning cake made by The Fabulous Baker Girls.
