#WIN Gola Coaster Metallic Rose Gold Sneakers !!

|By Elana| Home

So I know you are expecting a giveaway on this page…and yes, there is a giveaway…but what purpose would my blog be if I can’t share some good news or inspiration with you?

National Shoe The World Day is observed annually on March 15th.  I found this piece about this special day;

Each day over 500 million children, teens and adults around the world do not have a pair of shoes to wear, and despite the terrain and the climate, they have to walk barefoot everywhere. It is a struggle each day that we cannot begin to imagine. Having to live a daily life without protection on your feet can lead to a lifetime of problems including pain, injury, cuts, sores, infections, parasites, banning from schools and other places and the list goes on.

It’s a day to reflect, remember and something I love the most … a day to DO something about it. I’ve always had a love hate relationship with shoes. I love them and consider myself “lucky” to be able to afford them, and on the other hand have terrible guilt when I spend money on shoes. My ultimate dream is to gift my primary school in the area I grew up in with school shoes. Each child. I’m working on it. :)

For now though, our friends at Gola would like to possibly gift you a pair. The Gola Coaster Metallic is a classic silhouette with an on-trend Rose Gold metallic upper combined with a rubber outsole and toe cap.

#WIN with Elizabeth Arden

|By Elana| Free Stuff!, Home

Yea! Amazing makeup! Thank you Elizabeth Arden for making our first giveaway of the year possible! So you know what they say about purple right? Right. Here comes the best part; Pantone recently announced their 2018 Colour of the Year: Ultra-Violet. Not entirely sure how to pull off this stunning shade in the New Year? Elizabeth Arden is keeping you on-trend in 2018.

Eye Shadow Trio in Touch of Lavender (R385.00 for each interchangeable trio) Each set of the long-wear and crease-resistant formula features an enhance shade that can be used as a base, a define shade for contouring and a highlight shade to brighten and open eyes.

Sheer Kiss Lip Oil in Purple Serenity (R295.00) The perfect pop of luscious color that’s both fashionable and functional is here. Each tinted lip oil pairs the hydrating benefits of an oil with the pigment of a gloss, bridging the gap between color and care, to rejuvenate lips with anon-greasy feel.

Beautiful Color Bold Defining 24HR Liquid Eye Liner in Plum Desire (R265.00) This smooth liquid eyeliner defines eyes with bold, high impact color with the lasting benefits of 24-hour wear. The micro-fine applicator tip glides on with ease to create a precise, calligraphy-like look directly on the lash line. The buildable formula is waterproof, smudge proof, transfer proof, sweat proof, and quick drying.

It’s a New Year…Oh Dear! … and I learned how to dab!

|By Elana| Home

It’s not only New Year, it’s already the third week of January! *shrieks* How did this happen? OK, quick stock take…uhm, so far I’ve learned how to “dab” in 2018 (more on this later).

“So, Elana, what have you done with yourself so far today then?” I question myself.
Well, I picked up LEGOs five times. Right now I’m watching SABC news and there’s a fire. People are scared and homeless. My toddler is back at school (*ugly cry*) and she cried for me. So of course, I too cried in the car…AGAIN!

My eldest is going to High school and “res”. I’m a stepmom, but I’ve raised her, so goodness knows she is mine and she is going to a hostel. So yes, I’m happy for her and sad for me; all at the same time.I’ve reached for a glass of wine, but it tastes bitter. I shouldn’t have had that chewing gum earlier, so now I can’t even have a decent glass of wine. And now on top of it I’m wasting good wine too. But OK – this is not a blog about wine, so let’s continue…

With the New Year being here and already overwhelming me, every time I think about it, I either want to run back to 2017 like Speedy Gonzales (remember him?) or towards the end of 2018 and sigh a huge sigh of relief, stating: “YES…We’ve done it! Well done team. Well done kids. Well done hubby. And of course, well done, Elana!” In a business meeting today (oh yes, I forgot I was productive on that one), a super incredibly dynamic person mentioned to me that 2017 was a “character building” year. And that, here it comes…*drumroll*…if your surroundings are unstable, you can’t expected to produce a stable product. Boom! That is so valuable! Well, I think so anyway…

And as I mentioned, I now know how to dab. What is it? It’s a dance that makes you look super young. Watch it here:

So, as I’m generally always a positive person, I have one big solution that might give us all that victorious “I won the Comrades this year” feeling in 2018 – not the actual race, just the sentiment, as we all run our own Comrades Marathons one way or another in life. The solution is a piece by Tim Ferriss. He is one of my husband, Ian’s, most favourite podcast producers and hosts. He established this: if you look at who literally “wasted your time” in 2017, simply don’t give them the same chance and time of day during 2018. Make important decisions instead about who you should surround yourself with.  He says:

  1. Grab a notepad and create two columns: POSITIVE and NEGATIVE.
  2. Go through your calendar from the last year, looking at every week.
  3. For each week, jot down on the pad any people and activities that triggered peak positive or negative emotions for that month.
  4. Once you’ve gone through the past year, look at your notepad list and ask “What 20% of each column produced the most reliable or powerful peaks?”
  5. Based on the answers, take your “positive” leaders and schedule more of them in 2018. Get them on the calendar now! Book things with friends and prepay for shit now! That’s step one. Step two is to take your “negative” leaders, put “NOT-TO-DO LIST” at the top, and put them somewhere you can see them each morning for the first few weeks of 2018. These are the people and things you *know* make you miserable, so don’t put them on your calendar out of obligation, guilt, FOMO, or other nonsense.

You see, it’s actually easy peasy. BUT you’re going to have to do some research and go back into your diary or digital calendar (or whatever you use to document your appointments in). Based on Tim Ferriss’ theory, this year I’m seeing my husband, family, my children and a few crazy and exciting people that I would like to share some exciting news, goodies and time with. That’s good enough for me, thank you very much. And I SHALL choose well. So, join me in raising a glass to 2018 (I’m now drinking some juice instead), because this HAS to be the best year ever. Let’s all kick some serious butt…and “dab” like there’s no tomorrow.

Love always,
